Elegant Kitchen

Alpine, UT

A kitchen built to anchor a busy household — quietly elegant, but unafraid of being used.

A blackened-steel arched range hood is the visual gravity of this room, framed by handmade subway tile in a soft slate blue and grounded by floor-to-ceiling shaker cabinetry in a warm white. Two brass lantern pendants hang over the island in pairs, picking up the satin brass coil faucets, the cabinet pulls, and the warm tones of caned barstools pulled up to the counter. Every metal element softens the white — the room never reads clinical.

The island itself is sized for everything a family really does in a kitchen: homework, recipe-testing, a half-arranged bowl of late-summer vegetables beside the day’s mail. We paired two pull-down spring faucets at the island sink so two people can prep without negotiating for the tap, and tucked the small appliances behind paneled cabinetry so the counters stay quiet.

It’s a kitchen built to host gracefully and run efficiently — but more than anything, it’s a kitchen built to be lived in.
